Bertholf, the first of eight NSC cutters has been accepted by the USCG. She will sail to Baltimore to be inspected by members of the US Congress before she sets sail to Alameda, California, her homeport. During August she will be commissioned at Alameda. As the first of the ship class, she was expensive, but follow on ships should costs much less, from her $641 million to as low as $441 million with better shipbuilding practices using larger modules.
