Although BrahMos is an anti-ship missile, it has the capability to engage land based targets. The missile can be launched either in a vertical or inclined position and is capable of covering targets over a 360 degree horizon. The BrahMos missile has identical configuration for land, sea and subsea platforms. The air-launched version has a smaller booster and additional tail fins for added stability during launch.

Babur is capable of carrying either conventional or nuclear warheads and has a reported range of 500 km (310 miles). It is reported that it can hit its target with "pinpoint accuracy" and can be fired from warships, submarines and fighter jets. It is designed to avoid radar detection and penetrate undetected through a defensive system. The cruise missile is a terrain hugging missile and it has up-to-date navigation and guidance system and a high degree of maneuverability.

To west, indian technology has always been inferior to Pakistan. Talking of cruise missile pakistan has Reversed Engineered one of USN's missile which landed in Pakistan. India is been assisted by Russia in this field and the missile is believed to be one of the fastest cruise missile.
can someone elaborate on which cruise missile is more capable of penetrating deep into enemy's territories?

all cruise missiles are designed to be stealthy ,and are designed to have pinpoint accuracy, including the brahmos and the babar.

i believe the more apt comparison would be between the babar and the indian sagarika cruise missile ,which is expected to be tested next year, unfortunately very little information is available about it.

they are:

1)it is being developed with israeli assistance.

2)it has a range of 700 nautical miles(1300kms)

3)it can carry a 500 kgs conventional or nuclear warhead.

4)it is primarily being developed for launch from submarines.

5)some of its components have been tested through an underwater missile test laboratory developed by larsen and toubro of the gujarat coast.

6)it is claimed to be in the same class as the babar and the tomahawk.

one advantage of a high speed (supersonic or hypersonic) cruise missile(besides the fact that it is stealthy),is that it has tremendous kinematic power.

which means that even if the missile is detected,it has to be shot down at a considerable distance from the target otherwise even if the missile is destroyed ,the sheer speed of the missile would ensure that the warhead continues on to the target and destroys it.

another advantage of a high speed cruise missile is that due to its high kinematic speed ,the lighter warhead can achieve the same amount of damage that a heavier warhead on a subsonic cruisemissile can.

I believe Pakistan would be working on making the Babur-2 super-sonic on par with the Brahmos since Babur-1 is sub-sonic. I'm hoping they show-case it in the soon to begin IDEAS 2006.

And still Babur-2 has same diameter as Babur 1? LOL

well that tells one about credibility of the post and the poster anyways
Babur terrain hugging capability !!!! does it have wheels ?:haha

Ahem not that I doubt the technical skillset to achieve the same.I wonder US would allow the essential services of its GPS constellation to be used for carrying out terrain hugging manuevers.(It would need equivalents of terrain contour matching (TERCOM) and Digital Scene Matching Area Correlation (DSMAC) [Tomahawk features] ).I doubt any country except US posses systems(Russians do have Glonass) in place to make available such high resolution and up to date images to the missile.

Babur is a CM but it might not be bale to fly low as a tomahawk and would eventually qualify as a just another drone for any SAM systems in place.Brahmos well speed is its forte and I guess one would require some defending to do against it specially if ones navy does not have stand off missile defense capability.

Now that all the "experts" have had their say in assuming the capabilities/technical details of Babur and Brahmos cruise missiles, this thread gets the lock award.

Search the forums/news, there is plenty for you to read. IF there is news out there from credible sources, just open another thread.

Enjoy!
