Hi I am very new to the site but was wondering if anyone can help?
One of my main areas of interest is the Auxiliary Units (stay behind units) that would have acted as our underground resistance should the Nazis have gone ahead and with operation Sealion.
I would love to locate the old patrol bases for the Herefordshire patrols. The only one I have ever found is that of the Bromyard Patrol.
The main one I would like to find is the Garnons Patrol Base as that is my home area and a friend of the family was a member of that patrol. (Yes I regret never talking to him about it, but I was fairly young when he died and he did not talk about it anyway).
Does anyone have any ideas?
I know that written information on the subject is almost nil and have found very little even on the national archives website.
Also i remember being told once that each patrol had a letter containing instructions, only to be opened in the event of invasion. After the war these letters were all destroyed. However I do remember hearing once about one that was kept and read. Apparently that patrol was instructed to shoot the local vicar, I presume it was thought his religious nature might make him susceptible to German persuasion?
Can anyone shed any light on the contents of these letters?
Many thanks.
