I apologize in advance if this is the incorrect forum for this thread, but I think that it is paramilitary related.
I am wondering what the capability of the various Australian state/territory police CT sections in terms of equipment used. Have noticed through the media that their weaponry seems to be on par with their Aust army conterparts & that some states now have access to armoured vehicles. As a side issue, any info about the air wings/maritme sections of the police forces that the CT have use of would be appreciated.
Cheers
I know about the Queensland Police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT), which is our CT team. They use the normal range of MP5 variants, M4 and H&K USP pistols. They also have Mossberg semi-auto 12 guage shotties, sniper rifles and "non lethal" capabilities (bean-bag rounds, Tasers etc).
They also have the usual selection of body-armour types (covert and overt) NVG equipment, advanced radio's, breathing apparartus and "breaching" kit including the ability to conduct "dynamic" breaches using C4 for opposed entries on "strongholds", shields etc.
They primarily use non-armoured customised 4WD's and had an application for an armoured vehicle knocked back.
They have various methods for which they are to be inserted including QPS Water police craft and their own "boats" plus diving/underwater assault kit. SERT also have access to Queensland Rescue helo's for airborne assaults/insertions/recon tasks.
They have a number of other capabilities as well which I won't reveal, but suffice to say are impressive when deploy... (The above info is publicly available via the "net" so am not giving away any secrets)...
They also have plenty of experience with in excess of 100 major jobs a year giving them significant experience and something that is necessarily lacking amongst ADF CT capabilities...
Other State capabilities are little different, though I am aware the New South Wales State Protection Group (SPG) have at least 1 armoured vehicle available to them... Victoria may too and other states have their own dedicated helo's which is something sorely lacking in Queensland...
That's about all I can put on the www. PM me when you can and I might reveal a bit more...
