G'day this is my 1st post on this forum,

Well ive been trying to get in the army reserves as a rifleman for a while now.
I dide the JOES but they wouldn't let me in for psyc reasons, they asked for a letter from a psyc and then denied me.
BUT, it seams that they lost the paperwork in the year that passed so I did the medical history questioair and I watered it down a bit and it seams ok, I'm expecting a call from the medical people any day now. I am heading to the recruiting office this arvy and handing in the crim record documents and ID.

I'm hoping it'll fly this time.

Now I have always loved to invision myself wearing aus dogtags since i was a kid. I'm just wondering exacly when I will get them if my application is successful.

BTW i'll bet this has been covered before but I'm in a real hurry and I've been looking for answers for a while and I'm not familiar with this forum and couldn't find a keyword search.

Also, I want to study the aus army hand signals. Is there a book or a website with all that kind of info and if so could you point me in the right direction

I appreciate all answers.
cheers,

Matt
ADF hopeful

Hello, welcome to the forum.

I can't help you with most of your questions but I can show you where and how to search.

In the first picture I have circled where the search section is located, simply click on advanced search to bring you to the screen in the second picture.

you will be issued dog tags in the first few weeks of training, you will also learn hand signals in the first few weeks. no need to study them before hand, they are basic and easy to learn.

Mate don't join. I'll be honest, you're obviously a nutter. If you've failed with psych already please don't burden and put the rest of us in danger but joining. I've had two guys break down overseas who shouldn't of been allowed in.

If you are getting all hyped up about dogtags here's the good oil:

Only wankers wear them in Australia. Rarely are they worn on ops. They don't do bugger all anymore and were just there for ceremonial status only.

It's rude mate, but if you join you'll be putting other people at risk. So stick to something else you are good at.

Mate you said you got referred to psych, then failed the psych assessment and then you tell us that you then lied "watered down" your assessment so you could get in. That's pretty much cheating.

We rely on each other overseas and if you fall apart because you shouldn't be there you could kill yourself or someone else.

It's harsh mate but it's not a game, its bloody serious.

Casualties your unit as sustained? Jesus mate. You've been reading too much tom clancy. I'm out as of recently, but I did spend a bit over 2 years deployed. So yeah I'd say I've got some experience.

Do you want nutters who lie on psych tests to get in?

nah mate, dont read clancy, but enjoy beers with my mates, CSM 5RAR, Ex-RSM 2 RAR so I to have a good idea whats going on overseas. Also stay in touch with mates in the west. Yep, the guys in the mid east get hit by mortars and RPG,s in their compounds, but they are hardly kicking in doors....and ive spent most of my youth living out of my pack and webbing. Dog tags are not important, but recruiting is. I hear there are a hell of a lot of digs who spend their time off in barracks, playing computer games, or spinning out on eccys in a dance club these days...maybe pych have got it all wrong in the first place, hiring pussys instead of men...

Those days are gone for the moment mate. You aren't even taught to dig in on sub one anymore. It's all urban ops now. Yeah its a computer culture and the standard has fallen but that's society not anyons fault. It all changed in 1999 when we went into timor and tried to use tradition vietnam ops in a mainly urban environment. Tactics have changed. I had to cas evac a guy out after he was in country for 9 days, he simply hadn't been exposed to living it hard for a bit and cracked it. . Just made life harder for me and the team as it put more load on us. Such is life

see, many moons ago when I was a teenager I had a family crisis and broke down and ended up in a funny farm. When the questionair came I didn't look at it right I couldn't remember what kind of treatment occured and u know the story.

I went back to the funny farm and looked at my file and found out exacly what happened, then I presented this on a different questionair and It looks good. anyone who hasn't grown up on a bed of roses would know what I'm talking about.

I know pain and I'm tougher now then I was back then

Your just hot air mate ;)[/quote]

I'm sorry to hear about your problems, but this site is designed to allow people to discuss defence issues.

I don't ever remember ANY Dig EVER wearing a set of dogtags and I have no idea what happened to mine. They were packed away with a lot of the crap you are issued during basic and I never saw them again.

I'd suggest you'd be better off worrying about IF you are even going to get into the ADF than about dogtags, field signals or any other similar military matter. You will learn about these things in due course, if accepted and if not, well, what possible use could you have for them?

I'm closing this thread as it's going nowhere and is likely to degenerate...
