The former Australian Submarine Corporation (ASC Pty Ltd) will be sold by the federal government.
Finance Minister Nick Minchin announced that following a scoping study into the possible sale of the company, the government had decided to put it up for a competitive tender sale.
So is this good or bad? What could it mean the RAN?

I'd like to think more competition between different ship building places would result in a better situation when acquiring Naval assets for the Gov't, but i just wonder if less Gov't ownership will mean more decisions taking longer as they are tied up in more red tape

Also, could this affect the price of building the new AWD's, if ASC is eventually chosen to do that project?

I'd imagine for ASC to lose the contract they'd have to deliberately set their yard on fire watched by a throng of media.

It's already been decided. If you believe the SMH on defence matters, perhaps you'd also like a large bottle of snake oil?

RAN needs the AWD's for it's long term force structure and future capability. FFG's will NOT last forever and the ANZAC's are not designed to replace them, let alone IMPROVE on their capabilities...
