Here's something I picked up about women serving in the Royal Netherlands navy:

Women have served in the Dutch navy since 1944. However, initially they could serve in only a few specific position and with men and women were kept separate. Up through 1980, women serving in the navy could only work ashore, not aboard the Navy's ships. In 1982 all female service components of the Dutch military (i.e. of army, navy and airforce) were abolished. Since then, it has been possible for women to apply for any position in the navy, including those aboard ships. A mixed crew has become a common sight on pretty much all types of ships of the Dutch navy, with the exception of the submarine.

Actually some occupations in Navy or any other arms of the miltary is still not open to women. Such as SOF, Divers.

The Australian Navy has females on it's major warships and also female submariners and also (I believe) female helicopter pilots (I know the army does). About the only jobs not open to females in the Australian Navy are Clearance divers.

Oh girls are allowed on submarines in Australia?? I know they couldn't in U.S. One of the reason i heard was the toilet seat wasn't designed for them. Although i never been on a submarine before and have no idea what the toilet looks like. :D:
