Arab - Israeli war

Dear All,

I was told a story by a friend that during Arab-Israeli war, the artillery (or truck based surface-to-air missies) were firing and their locations were predicted so they were destroyed by counter-artillery fire.

All of them were destroyed but one, who read the instruction on the missile which advised to relocate after firing.

Can someone give me details about this ?

Wrong forum, but one story I did hear that that the Israeli's managed to plant someone in the Egyptian military who became somehow involved with pre-surveyed firing points for the artillery and he suggested that they plant palms so the gunners would have shade to work in.

Come a shooting war, the IAF just rolled up every random group of of palm trees in a given sector as they were easier to pick out than the camouflaged firing positions.

Sounds too delicious to be true and the story was told by a grinning Israeli officer - I suspect there's a lot of that stuff in circulation.

His name was Eli Cohen and he was an Egyptian-born Israely spy in Syria. His story can be found easily on multiple websites using google. His most famous achievement is said to have been convincing Syrians to plant palm trees at all of their fortifications in Golan Heights.

Thanks - that sounds very coincident with my scattered memories of the story so I'm sure that's the chap and the incident I'm sure.

Great story ;)
