Aircraft Modification

Hi, im new to this forum but it looks like it's pretty good for what im looking for.

Im not going to lie, im writing a story and im looking for a jet fighter that suits my needs. But please dont hate on me for that.

Im looking at the F-15 eagle, an absolute classic, because of it's positive T/W. But im also looking at the Sukhoi Su-27, also for the design and positive T/W. But I'm wondering if there are more powerful engines out there that would fit of course.

Also, the need for the fighters is for anti-space combat, like using the satellite killers (ASAT) but not outragous space combat, like aliens and stuff, just human factions vying for control of space transport and combat.

Hope thats not too bad or too much to ask.. :)

A MiG-31B iirc was tested in ASAT configuration. As was an F-15 variant. There is an engine upgrade for the Su-27. Namely you can fit the 117S, and theoretically even the new 117 engines on to it. However I don't recall any ASAT capability on the Su-27, off the top of my head. If you're looking for really powerful engines, the MiG-31 is a good choice.

What exactly is this for? A fictional work?

Iirc the USSR tested unmanned combat satellites, armed with a 20mm auto-cannon, and another one with explosives on it, to destroy other satellites.

Yes it is a fictional work, but not one that is outrageously fictional. its based on a time period where space travel is normal, yet warfare is new.

Ill have a look at the Mig-31, thanks for your help :)

Why even speculate or use an aircraft?

Here's a real satellite being shot down by a real missile.

Rogue Spy Satellite Blast - YouTube

That was the RIM-161, Standard SM-3 missile launched from an AEGIS equipped US Navy Cruiser - USS Lake Eyrie.

That missile is 21 feet long, 13.5 inches in diameter, has a range of over 500k's, a maximum altitude in excess of 160k's and travels at more than 9600kph.

At the time of that intercept, the missile hit the satellite above the pacific ocean, 240k's above the surface of the earth, with the missile and the satellite having a closing speed of 36,600kph...

And the whole thing was recorded on video for posterity reasons, obviously...

:D
