AI / Robotics and the Rise of the Machines (Humanoid)

We don't seem to have a dedicated thread on humanoid robots or to be more precise, embodied intelligence (combination of AI, autonomous sensors with a physical presence).

Compared to the 90s / 2000s / 2010s, advancements in areas of electronics, battery technology, sensors and AI have enabled functionality that have practical implications and are moving beyond research labs into factories.

Where are the Chinese? Not very far behind. In fact, they are going through the hyper iteration cycle right now where multiple startups are rushing to roll out their platforms. I suspect a number of these will not survive but those who do..

The benchmark and leading company seems to be Unitree G1. You might recall their Unitree GO2 robot dog that even Ukraine has deployed. G1 dropped earlier this year and is notable for its clear and relatively affordable pricing (USD 16k). However, other Chinese competitors are already giving them a run for the money.

(China) Engine AI's is another very promising startup with robot that emphasises very natural walking gait. They have released two robots, the SE01 in October 2024 and the PM01 (under USD 12k) in December 2024

And you have companies like Kepler with their Kepler K2 Forerunner, which looks like an Optimus copy, targeting the industrial use case
