A war with China

I see the Peoples Republic of China as the third reich of the 21st century.
And with our current relations with Taiwan, we will more than likely see sometype of conflict with this totalitarian state.

What do you guys have to say about the subject?

I think you know nothing about the third reich or china.

But to not make it a one liner I tell you that this topic is much too wide and too political to discuss it here even if it would be discussed in a civilized way (Which seems to be difficult).

Maybe saying "nothing" was a bit too harsh.

But it is up to you telling what are the similarities besides both being non democratic. You made this comparison so its up to you to prove it.

For me saying that China is like the Third Reich is way over the top.

Or is genozide and attacking nearly all its neighbours part of the current China?

I have maps that show almost every territory bordering China was once part of that Nation when it was an Empire. This has been used as an excuse for a war of expansion more than once.

In places like Thailand and Siberia, this overlordship was mainly symbolic, but not everywhere. Who would have a serious problem with China over-running North Korea and eliminating an insane dictator, escpecialy after he sets off another bomb? After that, its not such a Great Leap to Taiwan or Kyrgizstan.

I can show you maps of the german reich before WWI. There it was also much bigger.
Does this makes the FRG of today look like an agressive country?

I stated that you cannot compare the China of today with the third reich.
China is today not performing agressive wars on multiple frontlines and there is no genozide going on.
It is a totalitarian regime that's right. But comparing it with the third reich is much too much.

Just because some country could use borders from centuries ago as an excuse for an angressive war (And is actually not doing this) is not a criterium for being like the third reich.

The nationalism that is rampent amongst chinese people can be seen in manny places, including DT. IMHO, the combination of a totalitarian government, with no transparancy, controll of the press, an abysmal human rights record, a history of offensive warfare (the invasion and annexation of Tibet), a rapidly expanding industrial military complex, a rapidly expanding economy, a massive need for scarce resources and rampant nationalism amongst the general population makes the possibility of a regional war with a militarily and economically strong china a very likely and frightening possibility in the future.

An interesting question is what the european stance would be in such a conflict?

Yeah- that's a kicker. Well, it's pretty easy to see where the UK will be siding- but I honestly can't see the Germans and French wanting to be invovled, unless it involves selling arms. The Russians, though, would probably back China against the US. I keep seeing news articles with them clashing hard with the US.

i dont know about the russians. When they were both part of the so called communist block they had border disputes which did end up in fatalities on both sides. I think the russians would feel just as threatend as the rest of us by a powerfull and expantionist china, more threatened (unhappy) than they are with the strength of the US. I think they would do thier darndest to stay out of it.

Is this a flamer thread? Are you guys for real? While I can understand some of the rationale behind the question (human rights abuses, expansion of its military etc), if one was to apply the same logic to Uncle Sam, we could easily fall into the trap pot calling the kettle black. Some would argue that the US has appalling record at human right (its native Americans, African Americans), military expansion (post WWII Europe and SE Asia), war mongering (Vietnam, Iraq) etc etc.
The bottom line, keep to specifics. There is more likelihood of the current war on terror to turn into a middle eastern regional war than a full scale war between China (backed by Russia, France etc) and the US (backed by UK and other members of the coalition).
cheers

This thread is not going anywhere except continuing to flame, so I'm just going to shut it down before further damage.
