Mig-29
The Mig-29 is a 4th generation Russian light fighter aircraft, comparable in size and preformance to the American F-16B2 or F-18. Russia operates several varients of the Mig-29: Mig-29M – which is an advanced multirole version equipt with new RD-33A engines and new fly-by-wire suits. Mig-29SMT – new liquid crystal MFD displays, longer combat range, and improved Zhuk-ME radar. Mig-29K – A naval varient designed for operation off the carrier Kuznetsov, incoorperating 4 channel fly-by-wire, LCD displays and new satellite navigation equipment. Mig-29SM – The standard Russian model, Fly-by-wire, and capability to carry guided air-to-surface missiles. Russia operates at total of around 643 Mig-29 fighters. Recent combat operation: The Mig-29M performed air superiority missions along side the Su-27 during the 2008 war with Georgia, and could have been reponsible for the downing of a Georgian Su-25. In April 20, 2008 Georgia accused Russia of shooting down its Hermes drone with a Mig-29, UN determined that the drone was shot down by a Mig-29 firing an R-73 air-to-air missile.
