Meggitt Airdynamics, Meggitt Defense Systems Inc (MDSI), a US subsidiary of Meggitt PLC, has been awarded a contract valued in excess of four million dollars to develop the 30 mm ammunition handling system for the Future Combat Systems (FCS) Infantry Carrier Vehicle (ICV) by BAE Systems, the ICV prime contractor.
During the 30-month contract period, MDSI will design, develop, fabricate, test and deliver six prototypes providing a common base for linkless handling of rounds for the Mk 44 Chain Gun, the medium calibre weapon of choice for FCS manned ground vehicles. Work will be performed at MDSI’s Irvine, CA facility.
According to Greg Hill, Director of Ordnance Marketing for Meggitt Defense Systems, “this important win reinforces MDSI’s leadership medium calibre ammunition handling systems and the inherent superiority in reliability, weight and supportability of our linear linkless technology. We look forward to delivering a world-class system to BAE Systems and the US Army.”
Meggitt Defense Systems Linear Linkless magazines are on the AH-64 Apache, UH-60 Blackhawk, AH-1W/Z Super Cobra, and AC-130U Spectre Gunship.
