AP, MC GUIRE AIR FORCE BASE: The base will take delivery Friday of the first C-17 Globemaster III aircraft in its new fleet of military cargo planes.
The C-17s, capable of carrying more than 170,000 pounds of cargo, will replace McGuire's aging fleet of C-141 cargo planes, some of which were more than 40 years old.
More than $85 million in military construction projects are under way at McGuire to accommodate the base's full fleet of 13 C-17s, which are scheduled to be delivered between now and June 2005.
