Australian Department of Defense, This formal parade on 7th July 2007 will signify the readiness of first M1A1 Abrams Tank Squadron for operational service and the withdrawal of the last Leopard Tank Squadron from service after 30 years in the Australian Army.
Guests from across Australia and the United States will attend the parade including the families and friends of 1st Armoured Regiment members and numerous previous serving Commanding Officers, Regimental Sergeant Majors and soldiers.
The parade will be reviewed by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Mr Peter Lindsay. He will be accompanied by the Chief of Army Lieutenant General Peter Leahy.
The parade coincides with the 1st Armoured Regiment’s 58th birthday. The parade will involve 27 M1A1 Abrams Tanks, the Regiment’s last 11 Leopard Tanks and two M88 Hercules Recovery vehicles, four Heavy Tank Transporters and the Regiment’s forward repair assets, driving in formations and participating in an inspection.
