Singapore Ministry of Defence,
Minister for Education and Second Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen launched the Infantry Gunnery and Tactical Simulator (IGTS) at Pasir Laba Camp on 6 Jun 08. The state-of-the-art IGTS is the latest addition to the SAF's range of training simulators.
The IGTS consists of two main components: the Support Weapons Simulator (SWS) and the Commander Tactical Trainer (CTT). The SWS consists of five weapon simulators for soldiers to sharpen their individual gunnery skills, while the CTT allows complex operating environments to be recreated in a virtual setting. This helps to develop the commanders' battlefield planning, coordination and execution skills before validating them in field training exercises.
Simulation is a key component of 3rd Generation Army training. Besides optimising the space and time required for training, simulators provide our soldiers with effective outcome-based training for a broad spectrum of operations.
After the launch, Dr Ng interacted with Operationally-Ready National Servicemen from the 688th Battalion, Singapore Infantry Regiment, who were undergoing training at the IGTS.
