Korean Information Service, Korea’s defense procurement agency said Wednesday (May 16) its head will fly to Turkey this weekend to attend an annual defense industry fair and seek closer ties with the country in the defense field.
“Lee will attend the international defense industry fair at the invitation of the Turkish Defense Ministry,” a spokesman at the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said.
Lee is also scheduled to meet with the Turkish defense minister, his Turkish counterpart, and some other senior military officers for discussions on mutual issues of concern, the spokesman added.
He refused to comment on whether Lee will touch on South Korea’s efforts to sell weapons during his weeklong visit.
Korea is reportedly trying to sell its new XK-2 tank, KT-1 basic trainer jet, and other weapons.
“The Korean and Turkish governments agreed to make public any details of a weapon-related bilateral deal through a joint press release,” the DAPA official said.
