Korean Information Service, An international air show will be held here next week with 255 defense firms from 26 nations showcasing their products in advanced aerospace technology, the Air Force said Friday (Oct.12).
Officially named “Korea Aerospace & Defense Exhibition 2007,” the show will kick off Tuesday for a six-day run at a military airport in Seongnam, just south of Seoul. Korea has hosted the event, which is becoming Asia's largest defense fair, every two years since 1996.
Aircraft to be displayed include F-15C fighter jets of the U.S. and AH-64 Apache choppers, as well as Korea's F-15K and KF-16 aircraft.
Korea also plans to use the show for its efforts to export weapons such as KT-1 basic trainer jet, T-50 supersonic trainer, K-9 self-propelled howitzer, and K-21 tank.
“Various types of aircraft will be on display, along with aerial demonstrations,” Air Force spokesman Lt. Col. Moon Chae-wook said. “It will also be the farewell stage for the Black Eagle team.”
The Black Eagle aerobatic flight team will be disbanded after the show, as the Air Force plans to dispose of its aged A-37 jets.
Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Kim Eun-gi is scheduled to fly a jet to lead the fleet.
Moon added that a conference of air chiefs from seven nations will be held in Seoul Monday on the sidelines of the air show. The countries are Germany, Indonesia, Iraq, Norway, Singapore, and Thailand, as well as Korea.
