TEWKSBURY: Raytheon Company's Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System (JLENS) completed a successful system functional review (SFR) late last month.
Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems' JLENS provides a long-duration, wide- area cruise missile defense capability while also supplying the battlefield commander with situational awareness and elevated communications relay capabilities.
This technical review was the last major milestone for the technology
development acquisition phase of the program and marks the readiness of the program to enter the system development and demonstration (SDD) phase. The primary objective of the SFR was to ensure complete allocation of system level requirements to the system prime items. The two-day technical review included an overview of the JLENS system and in-depth reviews of each of the prime items, to include the fire control radar, surveillance radar, processing station, communication system, and platform.
“Raytheon is working closely with the U.S. Army customer every step of the way to develop a system that meets the needs of the warfighter,” said Ralph Acaba, JLENS program manager. “JLENS provides over the horizon detection and tracking of incoming cruise missiles with sufficient warning to enable air defense systems to engage and defeat the threat.”
During SDD, all hardware, software and logistics support required to deploy the system will be developed and will undergo extensive testing to ensure the system meets its requirements.
