The Ministerial Committee on Security Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak, has decided to approve the deal to purchase F-35 stealth aircraft.
The decision was made following a series of discussions that the ministerial committee has held in recent weeks, during which ministers were presented with the comprehensive staff work that the IDF and the Defense Ministry have carried out in recent years on the issuing of acquiring the F-35. The ministerial committee was also briefed by the National Security Council.
Ministers commended the staff work and contacts with the US Defense Dept. Joint Strike Fighter Program and the plane’s manufacturers. The staff work covered not only the plane’s capabilities and cost but also the integration of Israel’s security industries in the manufacturing of the plane and the integration of Israeli systems in the plane.
Prime Minister Netanyahu said that,” Acquiring the most innovative combat plane in the world is a significant step in strengthening the State of Israel’s military capabilities.”
