Advanced Interactive Systems, Inc. Upgrades Simulation Platform With the InterSense IS-900 Motion Tracking System for Realistic Training of Dismounted Infantry
BEDFORD, MA: InterSense Incorporated, a market leader in precision motion technology, today announced its IS-900 motion tracking system has been installed in the U.S. Army's Soldier Battle Lab located at Fort Benning, Georgia. The Soldier Battle Lab was designed to conduct live, virtual and constructive (LVC) experiments to gain insights, impacts and recommended changes to Doctrine Training Leadership Organization Material Personnel Facilities (DTLOMPF), based on rigorous assessments of emerging technologies and tactical innovations by soldiers and their leaders.
As part of a simulation platform upgrade completed by Advanced Interactive Systems (AIS), InterSense's wireless IS-900 technology will be installed in a series of linked simulators within the Fort Benning facility. Each simulator is equipped with an immersive display and motion tracking equipment for both the weapon and soldier to ensure realistic situational awareness training, allowing squads to plan missions via the stealth interface, identify how to enter a hostile environment, rehearse actions and perform After Action Reviews (AARs) for unit scoring and performance assessments. Training scenarios can be conducted for either the entire squad or individual soldiers.
The inclusion of weapons tracking ensures soldiers learn the proper techniques of holding and firing assault rifles and other weapons. Integration of an InterSense button interface feature offers fire select, safety and trigger modes to realistically demonstrate how the soldier is relating to the simulated environment, maintaining the real “look and feel” while ensuring accurate simulation.
“Our long history with the company, coupled with the flexibility of their technology, made InterSense the natural choice when upgrading the motion tracking systems of the Soldier Battle Lab,” stated Erik Chuba, vice president of SVS programs, Advanced Interactive Systems. “Leveraging the existing functionality of the legacy IS-600 system also provided a significant savings on equipment and personnel retraining.”
“The Soldier Battle Lab serves as a critical proving ground for current and proposed infantry training protocols, so selection of our motion sensing technology for this upgrade reemphasizes InterSense's value in and commitment to military training effectiveness,” stated T.C. Browne, CEO of InterSense. “We continue to develop new means of providing military personnel with the tools they need for optimal training and are very pleased to again be working with AIS to deploy those capabilities.”
