, Commerce, Industry and Energy Minister Kim Young-ju will fly to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), early this week to promote exports of Korean weapons at an international defense exhibition, ministry officials said Sunday (Feb. 18).
Doosan Infracore and 15 other Korean companies have established booths at the exhibition, which kicked off Sunday for a five-day run to provide a chance for the world's leading arms manufacturers to showcase their state-of-the-art weapons.
Officially supported by the UAE government, IDEX 2007, the eighth exhibition of its kind, is expected to attract 862 weapons manufacturers and arms procurement officials from 95 countries.
“This year's gathering will play a key role in the important and emerging markets of the Middle East, Gulf and Asia, emphasizing the need for cooperation in armament acquisition and integration,” exhibition organizers said on its official Web site.
