Harlow UK: Raytheon Systems has just been awarded a contract to provide a further three Integrated Navigation System and Bridge shipsets for the Royal Navy's new Type 45 Destroyer programme. The contract, with BAE Systems, the prime contractor to the UK Ministry of Defence for the Type 45, follows the commencement of deliveries by RSL last year of the Integrated Navigation System and Bridge shipsets for the first three vessels.
RSL is providing fully integrated Navigation systems which includes Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS), a Data Distribution subsystem, Inertial Navigation subsystems and numerous sensors including Raytheon Pathfinder navigation radars, along with a common suite of consoles. For this programme Raytheon Marine GmbH in Kiel is the major subcontractor to RSL for the supply of the Integrated Navigation and Bridge shipsets.
Ian Owen, RSL's Head of Naval Programmes, said, “RSL look forward to continuing the collaboration with BAE Systems to ensure the Royal Navy receives the best in class Bridge and Integrated Navigation System for the Type 45. This is a strategic programme for RSL as it grows the company's share of the UK naval market and enables Raytheon to establish the world benchmark for Navigation and Bridge Systems supporting the next generation of Royal Navy ships.”
RSL was contracted to supply the Integrated Navigation System and Bridge for the first three ships of type in 2001. RSL is also under contract to supply the Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) equipment sets for the first six Type 45's along with an IFF equipment set for the Maritime Integration and Support Centre at Portsmouth.
