Indra, The company obtains its first contract in Latvia and consolidates its sea surveillance system since the system already covers over 600 km of Spanish coast and has recently been contracted by Hong-Kong
This first reference concerning boundary surveillance in Eastern Europe places Indra in an area with a strong growth potential with foreseen tenders in countries such as Lithuania, Romania and Bulgaria.
Indra was awarded its first contract in Latvia after adjudication through tender competing with the sector’s main companies, to implement and start up an integrated surveillance system for Latvia’s naval forces to protect territorial waters and coasts from all sorts of threats. The contract for EUR18.2M is to be concluded in 22 months.
This contract is very important from a strategic point of view, since it is the second time, after the Hong-Kong award, a sea-surveillance system based on SIVE’s Spanish technology is exported. Besides this, it is also the first reference in Eastern Europe, an area rich in projects in the boundary-surveillance market in the world, with foreseen tenders in the upcoming months in Lithuania, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey, among other countries.
The project consists of implementing remote fixed stations equipped with sea-surveillance radar systems as well as an optronic platform with ultrared sensor and nightvision camera along 500 kms of Latvia’s coast.
The stations are connected to a command and control centre located in Liepaja. The centre’s function is to integrate all the data compiled by sensor stations to create a common and unified scenario of the Latvian coast to alert the systems operators for possible threats (drug traffic, illegal immigration, smuggled goods, etc) with enough time for an effective response. Besides this, the centre can also transmit and receive information from coast guard patrols.
The contract foresees the possibility of including additional sea surveillance systems as well as extending the trial period.
