New Delhi: The engines for MiG-29 fighter aircraft will now be manufactured in India.
An agreement in this regard will be signed during the visit of Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov here on January 23-24.
The decision to sign the agreement was taken today at a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said.
The CCS gave the approval for signing of the inter-governmental agreement with Russia for manufacture of RD-33 series of engines for the MiG-29 aircraft for Indian Air Force (IAF), he said.
The engines will be manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) under license from the Russian government.
