Report: MBKusuma Rani Photo : Russian Aircraft Corporation Editor : R.RAJANNA Russia's MiG-35 Fulcrum-F specially designed for Indian Air Force based on the model of the MIG-29M OVT (Fulcrum F) is a highly maneuverable air superiority fighter. The MIG-29 version in the Indian Air Force would have to be replaced by a superiority fighter by 2014 and the global manufacturers in this category of aircraft have already started bidding for tenders. Companies such as Lockheed Martin from USA, MIG from Russia and the EADS consortium of British, German, Spanish and Italian companies have already started negotiations with the Indian Government for the $10 Billion worth contract. It is said that the Indian Air Force (IAF) requires 126 light fighters by 2014 and for that reason the Russian MIG company had invited IAF delegation to Russia and had conducted a series of tests and live firing in an undisclosed area in the Russian territory. The MIG-35 Fulcrum-F is powered by RD-33 OVT engines which provide superior maneuverability and increases the fighter's capability in close air engagements. The sources have revealed that if the delegations which visited Russia are satisfied over the performance of the MiG-35 Fulcrum-F Russia would be prepared to transfer all technology to Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. and provide assistance and support for the production of the aircraft in Bangalore.
