, WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn: Boeing Integrated Defense Systems has awarded Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp., a follow-on procurement contract to supply additional constant frequency electric systems for the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey, under Lots 12-16 of the program.
The five-year procurement agreement represents a potential value of $90 million to Hamilton Sundstrand, which supplies two 40-kilovolt-ampere (kVA) constant frequency generators — with integral control units — per aircraft.
On March 28, the U.S. Department of Defense awarded the Bell Boeing program a $10.4 billion contract for multi-year production of up to 167 additional V-22 Osprey through 2012.
The multi-role V-22 employs tiltrotor technology, enabling the aircraft to combine the vertical performance of a helicopter and the speed and range of a fixed wing aircraft. The V-22 is in joint service with the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force Special Operations, and was deployed to service in Iraq in September 2007.
“This award solidifies Hamilton Sundstrand as a constant frequency electric system supplier of choice for the V-22 program,” said Clif Jacobs, vice president and general manager, Hamilton Sundstrand Electric Systems. “We are proud to continue our commitment to this high performance, highly flexible multi-role aircraft.”
With 2007 revenues of $5.6 billion, Hamilton Sundstrand employs approximately 18,300 people worldwide and is headquartered in Windsor Locks, Conn.
