UK Ministry of Defence, The UK's ground forces are getting a state-of-the-art precision land attack rocket with twice the range of existing artillery systems, under a contract announced today by the Ministry of Defence.
The Global Positioning System (GPS) guided rockets contain the latest advanced computer technology giving them unsurpassed accuracy out to a range of almost 70 Kilometres.
Minister for Defence Procurement, Lord Drayson said: “This new rocket gives us huge improvements in range and accuracy over its predecessor, meaning it will take significantly fewer rockets to defeat our targets while reducing the risk of collateral damage. The Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System is a huge advance on our current capability and will deliver a powerful unitary warhead to its destination with pin-point accuracy, giving the Royal Artillery its first ever long range precision rocket.”
The Defence Procurement Agency co-ordinated the purchase of the first batch of the latest Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) through an arrangement with the US Department of Defense.
