Gripen International, During spring and fall Gripen takes part in various international exercises but summer is the air show time in Europe. The international season started in mid June for Gripen, at the Airshow 2005 in Karup, Denmark.
The week after, three Gripen aircraft from the Swedish Air Force F17 wing took off for Zeltweg in Austria, a big air show with more than 250 000 spectators over two days.
Sadly, this was the last chance to see a solo display by one of Gripens grandfathers, an operational Saab Draken fighter, a classic aircraft that turned 50 this year.
The Czech Republic has seen their new Gripen on display at several different occasions and one of the aircraft also flew at the Sliac Air Fest in neighboring Slovakia in early June. Later, on September 3-4, the Czech Gripen will be the main focus at the Brno Air Show.
