WASHINGTON: Defense contractor General Dynamics Corp. on Wednesday said it won three orders valued at $155 million to build 109 Stryker wheeled combat vehicles for the US Army.
General Dynamics, based in Falls Church, Virginia, said the orders would bring the Army's procurement of Strykers to 519 vehicles for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30.
Work on the new vehicles would be completed by October 2008, the company said.
Stryker is a family of eight-wheeled combat vehicles that can travel at speeds up to 62 miles per hour and have a range of 312 miles.
Lighter than other tanks or armored vehicles, Stryker combat vehicles help get troops to the battlefield quickly.
To date, General Dynamics has delivered more than 1,780 Strykers of the 2,691 included in the U.S. Army's plans for seven Stryker Brigade Combat Teams.
