BAGHDAD: Four US marines were killed when their tank rolled off a bridge in Iraq's restive Al-Anbar province the US military announced late on Thursday.
The marines were traveling near Karmah in Al Anbar in a M1A1 main battle tank when their vehicle rolled off a bridge into a canal on Thursday. All four marines in the tank drowned.
“The deaths were not a result of enemy action,” emphasized the US marines. Three other US soldiers died on Thursday bringing the toll for the day to seven dead service members.
The latest deaths bring the toll of US servicemen killed in Iraq since the invasion to 2,431 in an AFP count based on Pentagon figures.
