MOSCOW: Russian company Almaz-Antei has completed its first delivery of the S-300PMU1 missile air defense system to Vietnam, the company press-service said Thursday.
The deliveries are being made in accordance with a contract signed on August 8, 2003 between Russian arms trade monopolist Rosoboronexport and the Vietnamese government.
Missile air defense system S-300 and its modifications are one of the most popular Russian brands on the air defense market. The first foreign contracts were signed in 1994 with China, and then with Cyprus. The contract with Vietnam was signed during the MAKS-2003 air show. Under the contract, missile air defense systems S-300PMU1 sufficient for up to two battalions will be delivered, at an approximate price of $250-300 million.
