EADS, EADS CASA has received today at its facilities in Madrid the first A330 platform from Airbus for conversion into Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) for the Royal Australian Air Force.
EADS CASA will supply five (5) of these new generation air to air refuelling aircraft and associated training and support systems under the 1.400 million Australian dollar (825 million euro) contract signed at the end of 2004.
The new MRTTs will be capable of refuelling F/A-18, F-111, Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft, as well as other. The A330 MRTT also has a significant strategic airlift capability able to carry up to 272 passengers and a combination of commercial and military cargo pallets.
