, A commission appointed by the Finnish defence ministry in January 2006 said in its report Wednesday that it was unadvisable from the Finnish Defence Force's perspective to lease out practice ranges for international exercises in which the Finnish military did not itself participate.
The report added Finland would have to provide host-nation support, thus generating additional costs and trying down the Defence Forces' already diminishing personnel.
“Conversely, Finnish-led international military exercises add value to the development of our national defence and military crisis management capabilities,” it said.
The Finnish military has at its disposal about 2,800 square kilometres, some 200 square kilometres more than the land mass of Luxembourg.
