HELSINKI: Finland scrambled a jet fighter after a Russian air force transport penetrated more than 4 km into its airspace, the country's military said.
Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen said he would be seeking an explanation from Moscow if the incident were confirmed.
Defence ministry spokesman Jyrki Livonen said an F-18 Hornet fighter had been sent to identify the plane.
The incident occurred near Porvoo, 60 km east of Helsinki, where similar intrusions by Russian aircraft occurred in August 2005 and April 2006.
