Finnish Government,
Funds earmarked for defence spending are set to increase two percent annually, according to information obtained by YLE. The plan is outlined in Finland's new security and defence policy report which is to be published on Friday.
The call to regularly increase defence funding comes on the heels of continuously rising costs for military technology. Crisis management operations are also to receive more funds. No significant changes in Finland's stance on NATO are expected.
The government foreign and security policy committee (UTVA) with Tarja Halonen is expected to approve the policy report on Friday.
Meanwhile less funding could be in store for defence reservists. Chief of Defence, Admiral Juhani Kaskeala has mentioned the need to cut the number of reservists from 350,000 to 250,000.
