Eurofighter GmbH, HALLBERGMOOS, Germany: The Eurofighter consortium has announced that it will support a 2006 initiative to involve and attract the engineers of the future into the aerospace industry through a new international aerospace competition.
The announcement came on Tuesday, 15th November at the 2005 award ceremony for the School Aerospace Challenge. Every year the Institution of Mechanical Engineers holds a national event for pre university educational level teams with great support from the UK based aerospace engineering sector. These teams respond to an aerospace task, and the best teams meet at Cranfield University for a final competition, with the winner awarded a prize at the annual reception in London.
Following the successful trial with the teams from Singapore and South Africa, the organisers announced the start of a new international competition and summer school commencing in 2006. This will operate completely independently of the Schools Aerospace Challenge which will continue with its Royal Air Force theme for UK teams only.
The 2006 international competition will hopefully involve teams from 12 countries, and the week long course will once again utilise the first class facilities of the School of Engineering at Cranfield University.
