Embraer, Brazil: Embraer participates, once again, in the International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF), in Ankara, Turkey, May 22-25. This year, special emphasis will be given to the Super Tucano trainer aircraft.
The Super Tucano is one of the contenders in the Turkish Basic Trainer Aircraft (TEUTemel Eğitim Uçağý) Program for replacing the ageing fleet of T-37s which are currently used by the Turkish Air Force (TuAF).
The innovative and remarkable turboprop trainer is an evolution of the successful Tucano, which has some 650 units in service worldwide. Nearly 50 Super Tucanos are in service, today, in the Brazilian Air Force, and seven with the Colombian Air Force.
“Embraer is proposing a long lasting partnership with the Turkish Air Force and the local industry by offering the most cost effective training solution currently available in the market, together with a comprehensive industrial compensation program,” stated Luiz Carlos Aguiar, Embraer Executive Vice-President for the Defense and Government Market.
Recently, the Super Tucano was evaluated by a team from the TuAF and the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) in a configuration quite similar to their requirements.
The Super Tucano avionic system is operationally proven, with an advanced man-machine interface. There is a comprehensive synthetic training package, including a full weapons simulation mode. This activity demands much time and investment. The Super Tucano’s cockpit has been pressurized since the project’s conception. Developing a pressurized cockpit from a non-pressurized structure is not an easy task: it means designing a totally new structure and long operational and certification flight testing program. This demands a significant amount of time and, of course, leads to a substantial weight increase.
The aircraft is in full production on a very active and flexible assembly line. It is remarkable how Embraer is capable of accommodating customer needs, delivering the aircraft in shorter times, compared to the competition. A very important item for the aircraft’s entire operational life is having a broad-based, efficient and reliable logistical support system in place. Embraer’s impressive logistical support services are spread throughout the world, with aircraft flying on five continents. In the defense market it supports 650 Tucanos, 250 Bandeirantes, and many other aircraft in more than 20 air forces. In terms of commercial aviation, Embraer supports nearly 1,000 ERJ 145 family jets, as well as almost 200 E-Jets worldwide.
IDEF is a leading international defense show in the Turkey and Eurasia region. The trade fair is held by the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, under the auspices of the Ministry of Defence, at the Ankara Hippodrome. Participants include prominent aircraft manufacturers, operators, regulatory agencies and government authorities. From Brazil, Brigadier General Carlos Alberto Pires Rolla, Director of the Brazilian Air Force Technical and Aerospace Command (Comando Geral de Tecnologia Aeroespacial – CTA) will be representing the Defense Minister.
