Elbit Systems, At the upcoming Paris Air Show, the Elbit Systems Group will present a full range of systems and solutions, all of them based on advanced technologies developed in-house, representing breakthroughs in their respective fields.
A key theme in the Elbit Systems' presentation will be the synergy between companies in the Group, and how the interconnectivity among systems enables offering totally integrated solutions, vital for tactical superiority in future combat scenarios. This will be highlighted in an innovative presentation.
At the outdoor exhibition, Elbit Systems will display a variety of unmanned aerial vehicles and advanced electro-optical payloads (CoMPASS and MicroCoMPASS) demonstrating leadership in both areas:
UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLES (UAVs)
Elbit Systems’ UAVs have earned international recognition and are playing increasingly vital roles in the global war on terrorism. Military and homeland security forces worldwide are benefiting from their sophisticated capabilities and onboard systems which are taking on many of the complex challenges previously performed solely by manned aircraft. Elbit Systems' extensive experience and innovative approach to all aspects of UAV systems result in the outstanding operational solutions for Israel Defense Forces and the UK MOD. In cooperation with Thales, Elbit Systems is providing Hermes® UAV systems for the U.K. Watchkeeper Tactical UAV program. The company also supplies advanced UAV systems to additional customers worldwide.
Hermes 450 – A major player in Israel's ongoing security activities, the Hermes® 450 is the IDF's primary UAV system. The versatile, long-endurance UAV, equipped with Elbit Systems' CoMPASS EO/IR/LD gimbaled electro-optical payload, can adapt to a wide range of payloads, including SAR/GMTI radar and dual payload configurations. Hermes® 450 executes its diverse missions in a highly autonomous manner and is controlled by the Hermes Universal Ground Control System (UGCS), facilitating highly automated mission operation and control of the air vehicle and EO/IR/LD payload.
The UAV on display will be the “Hermes 450 Watchkeeper” configuration.
Hermes 1500 – A twin engine MALE UAV system, the Hermes 1500 is capable of maximum takeoff weight of 1750 kg, maximum altitude > 30,000 ft, more than 24 hours endurance in both day and night missions, maximum payload weight of 400 kg, with both Line-Of-Sight (LOS) and SATCOM data links. The Hermes 1500 is highly reliable, providing the safe return home with a broad range of valuable payloads.
SKYLARK Family – The Skylark family comprises electrically-propelled and highly-covert, close range UAV systems, including the revolutionary SkylarkII and the operational, mini-UAV Skylark I. These UAV systems provide Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) capabilities to all echelons. The Skylark UAV systems support open area as well as urban warfare scenarios for wartime, peace keeping, low intensity conflict and security applications.
Skylark I – This mini man-pack UAV system is well suited for very close range, beyond-the-hill missions. The system is especially designed for counter-terror applications. Performance-proven in cloudy, rainy and windy weather conditions, Skylark I has demonstrated excellent optical survey, target identification and surveillance capabilities. Hand-launched, Skylark I can be used for both defense and homeland security applications including perimeter security, border and coastal surveillance, anti-terrorism surveillance and a variety of law enforcement missions. Skylark I has already been procured by defense and homeland security authorities of numerous countries.
Skylark II – A close range tactical UAV, the Skylark II is designed for day, night and adverse weather observation, data collection and target marking at mission ranges exceeding 50 kilometers. The unique Skylark II equipped with a silent, electronic engine, is designed to operate in the battlefield using highly deployable HUMVEE class field vehicles equipped with an integral launcher for point launch and recovery and an advanced dual station Ground Control Station. The advanced UAV is highly autonomous and offers extensive mission centric capabilities including all of the Hermes family heritage flight and mission modes.
ELECTRO-OPTICAL SYSTEMS
Elbit Systems Electro-Optics Elop Ltd (Elop) is an acknowledged leader in stabilized electro-optical payload systems, currently operational in a wide range of air, naval and ground platforms, meeting adverse environmental conditions and stabilization/observation requirements while operating onboard during the assigned mission profile. On display will be:
DCoMPASS -Compact Multi-Purpose Advanced Stabilized System
The first electro-optical payload system providing full digital open architecture, DCoMPASS is a highly stabilized, 4-gimbaled, multi-sensor system, chosen for the prestigious “Watchkeeper” program, and in current serial production with a backlog of several hundred systems. DCoMPASS delivers superb day and night intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and tactical reconnaissance (ISTAR) capabilities in the harshest weather conditions.
DCoMPASS is based on the legacy 15″ CoMPASS system and is part of the Elop family of battle-proven, stabilized EO payloads, in service with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and other customers worldwide on various platforms.
Micro-CoMPASS is an 8″ extremely lightweight and compact payload system for small UAV's, airborne, marine and ground applications. It features excellent stabilization performance and high quality day and night sensors. Sensors onboard include a 3rd Generation 3-5 µm FPA zoom FLIR camera, zoom color CCD camera and a laser pointer.
