US Defense Security Cooperation Agency, WASHINGTON: The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress of a possible Foreign Military Sale to France of used E-2C aircraft as well as associated equipment and services. The total value, if all options are exercised, could be as high as $260 million.
The Government of France has requested a possible sale of one (1) used E-2C aircraft with HAWKEYE 2000 Airborne Early Warning (AEW) Suite, three (3) T-56-A-427 spare engines, spare and repair parts, support equipment, personnel training and training equipment, publications and technical data, system software development and installation, ground/flight testing of new systems and system modifications, U.S. Government and contractor engineering and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics support. The estimated cost is $260 million.
This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the military capabilities of France while enhancing weapon system standardization and interoperability with U.S. forces.
France requires an additional E-2C aircraft to strengthen its AEW surveillance and enhanced command, control, and communications capabilities for both carrier and shore-based operations within their defense network. A fourth aircraft will ensure enhanced fleet communications and interoperability with North Atlantic Treaty Organization obligations. France will have no difficulty absorbing the additional E-2C aircraft into its armed forces.
This proposed sale will not adversely affect the military balance in the region.
The principal contractors will be Northrop Grumman Corporation Bethpage, New York, and Rolls-Royce Corporation Indianapolis, Indiana
There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.
Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. Government and contractor representatives to France.
There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.
This notice of a potential sale is required by law; it does not mean that the sale has been concluded.
