Gripen International, The Danish Air Force Chief, Major General Stig Østergaard Nielsen visited the Swedish Armed Forces in mid-August 2007. During his visit, he flew in the new generation NATO standard Gripen D fighter.
Being an experienced pilot Major General Østergaard Nielsen not only had the opportunity to fly the Gripen at the Swedish Air Force Gripen Operational and Tactical Evaluation Unit in Malmslätt, near Linköping, but also to experience the planning and evaluation tools that the Swedish Air Force use for its Gripen operational missions.
The Swedish Air Force were happy to share their experiences of operating the new generation Gripen fighter with the Danish Air Force, as a future version of Gripen is one of the aircraft types being considered as a replacement for the Danish Air Force’s ageing F-16 fleet.
This summer Gripen flew at the Aalborg Air Show in Denmark and the Saab/Gripen team also took part in the Roskilde Air Show last weekend. The Danish Air Force also performed test flights with Gripen at Saab’s facility in Linköping, Sweden at the beginning of the Summer.
