Chinese and Russian navies conducted the third round of consultation in Zhanjiang City from August 16 to 21 for the Joint Sea-2016 joint maritime exercise and the theme of the joint exercise will be “joint maritime defense operation”.
Colonel Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense (MND) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), made these remarks at a regular news briefing on August 25, 2016, when asked about more details of the upcoming China-Russia drill in the South China Sea.
The both sides have made in-depth coordination on the execution plan, communications support and logistical support concerning the joint exercise, and reached a wide range of consensuses during the consultation, Wu said.
The two sides have visited relevant exercise venues and facilities, Wu told reporters.
“We will release further information concerning the joint maritime exercise in due time,” Wu Qian added.
