GIAT Industries, VERSAILLES-SATORY, France: Giat Industries has just been awarded an export contract regarding 76 Caesar artillery systems. With this new contract, the total number of Caesar ordered to date reaches now 160 systems.
“This new export success for the Caesar artillery system demonstrates the advance and competitiveness of this concept, which raised great interest from foreign delegations during the Eurosatory 2006 show,” says Luc Vigneron, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Giat Industries.
Developed as a private venture by Giat Industries, the Caesar is a light 155mm/52 calibre ordnance mounted on a 6×6 truck chassis fitted with an armoured cab. This weapon system can fire a six-round salvo and come out of action in less than 2 minutes. The system has a firing range of about 40 km.
Mobility, firepower, ease of operation and survivability are the key features of this new system. Caesar can be carried in a single load in a C-130 cargo aircraft.
Caesar can meet the requirements of both the forces sustaining operations in difficult areas and the rapid reaction forces.
For this contract, the 155mm/52 calibre ordnance will be mounted on a Soframe-Unimog truck, which demonstrates the versatility of this concept. The Caesar artillery system has already been ordered by the French and Thai armies in a version based on a Renault Trucks Defense chassis.
