, AVALON, Australia: Alenia Aeronautica, a Finmeccanica company, will be presenting to the Australian Defence Force and the public the C-27J Spartan, the only true new generation medium military airlifter. The Australia visit will commence on 20th March with static and flight displays at the 2007 Australian International Airshow at Avalon, Victoria.
The C-27J has been flown from Italy covering the 20,830 nautical miles (38.581 km) return trip in approximately 85 flight hours and six technical stops. After the Airshow the C-27J will be flown to three RAAF bases: Richmond, Amberley and Townsville, before returning home to Italy.
The C-27J is a twin-engine turboprop tactical transport aircraft specifically designed to meet the ADF requirements, and with state-of-the-art technology, avionics, propulsion and systems; it provides a high performance, cost effective, and extremely operationally flexible solution for the ADF. The C-27J is the only aircraft of its class offering interoperability with heavier airlifters like the C-17 and the C-130J that are already in service with the Royal Australian Air Force.
Ideally fitting in the RAAF AIR8000 Light Tactical Airlifter requirement, the C-27J is the only true medium size and capacity military aircraft available on the market, offering superior speed, range, payload, load compartment volume and cargo compartment cross-section.
The C-27J is ideal for typical regional and intra-theatre missions, including airland and airdrop of equipment and troops, LAPES, and Special Operations. It also offers the most effective solution for regional support tasks
