AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE, Belgian Defense Minister Andre Flahaut arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) May 9 for a three-day visit to discuss military cooperation between the two countries, diplomats said.
Flauhaut visited a military training school in the mining town of Likasi, in the southeast of the country, on his arrival, and is due to visit another in Kalemie on Lake Tanganyika on May 10.
He is meeting with Belgian officers training Congolese soldiers for the Congolese national army (FARDC), which is in the middle of being restructured.
Belgium has already helped train and equip three of six new FARDC brigades, which are integrating rebel and government soldiers who fought each other in the country
