SOUTHWEST ASIA: Coalition airpower integrated with coalition ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan during operations Oct. 17, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
In Afghanistan, an Air Force B-1B Lancer engaged multiple enemy targets with guided bomb unit-31s and GBU-38s near Jalalabad. The munitions impacted the targets and the on-scene joint terminal attack controller confirmed the mission was successful.
An Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity in Sarhawdza. The JTAC confirmed the mission was successful.
During that same mission, an F-15 performed a show of force in Faizabad. The JTAC reported the mission was a success.

A Royal Air Force GR-9 Harrier and a GR-7 Harrier were tasked to target enemy combatants with rockets in Kandahar. Coalition forces were receiving small arms and rocket fire from enemy combatants. The air strike resulted in subduing enemy threat and neutralized enemy fire.
A B1-B performed a show of force while dispensing flares to deter enemy actions in Gardez. The mission was deemed successful by the JTAC.
In total, 25 close-air-support missions were flown in support of ISAFand Afghan security forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

While conducting an armed overwatch for a coalition convoy traveling through Taji, an F-16 performed a show of force to deter enemy activities. The JTAC declared the mission was successful.
In total, coalition aircraft flew 49 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions supported coalition ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided overwatch for reconstruction activities and helped to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.
Twenty-one Air Force, Navy and Royal Australian Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Additionally, two RAF aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.
Air Force C-130 Hercules aircaft and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa.
Approximately 158 airlift sorties were flown; 412 tons of cargo were delivered, and 3,988 passengers were transported. This included approximately 42,000 pounds of troop re-supply air-dropped in Afghanistan.
Coalition C-130 crews from Japan flew in support of operations in Afghanistan or Iraq.
On Oct. 16, Air Force, French and RAF tankers flew 39 sorties and off-loaded approximately 2.6 million pounds of fuel to 194 receiving aircraft.
