EADS, ULM, Germany: EADS is to build a control station in Tunisia for the country's security forces. In July, a contract to this effect was concluded between EADS and the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior. The value of the contract is EUR 2 million.
The initial contract phase covers the delivery to Tunis of a complete @CORE control station together with 18 consoles. @CORE is a new control station system for radio monitoring and emergency call reception based on Internet Protocol (IP) technology. This will be the largest EADS @CORE control station outside Germany. It will be the nerve centre and the core of the Tunisian network of control stations. Following this update project, the stepwise modernization of a further 20 control stations in this country is planned. Initially, the radio communication will continue to be analogue. Following the upgrading, the central control station in Tunis is to be supplemented with a digital radio cell by the end of 2006.
In view of the increased international requirements in the area of homeland and border security, Tunisia has decided to modernize its analogue radio technology, setting itself the goal of gradually introducing digital radio communication. A major requirement in the competitive tendering was therefore that the technology for the future control stations would guarantee a smooth transition from analogue to digital technology and the interoperability of the two technologies. By applying the IP-based @CORE system solution, EADS is meeting this requirement. All the interfaces for the usual digital radio systems are already integrated into the @CORE system technology that is now being installed.
Defence and Communications Systems (DCS), the Systems House of EADS, is an integrated part of the EADS Defence & Security Systems Division (DS).
EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2004, EADS generated revenues of EUR 31.8 billion and employed a workforce of about 110,000.
