EADS, MUNICH, Germany: EADS has been awarded the contract by the Finnish Navy for the modernisation of two Hameenmaa-Class vessels.
The EUR 15 million contract includes the EADS Advanced Naval Combat Management System (ANCS) together with the TRS-3D Multi-Mode Radar and the Identification Friend or Foe System MSSR2000. Both of these products will fulfil the future operational requirements of the Finnish Navy.
With the modernisation, the Finnish Navy develops its capability to effectively protect the naval sea lines and its ability to participate in international crisis management missions. At the completion of the modernisation, the ships will also be assigned to the missions of surveillance, protection of sea traffic, command & control, and auxiliary/support of international missions.
The project will be completed in 2008. As the shipyard work will be executed in Finland, Aker Finnyards will be responsible for the shipyard work of the modernisation.
