United Industrial Corporation, HUNT VALLEY: United Industrial Corporation announced today that its AAI Corporation subsidiary has received a $14.4 million contract from the U.S. Army for an additional Shadow Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (TUAV) system.
This system will be produced in conjunction with eight TUAV systems ordered in December 2004 under the fiscal 2005 full-rate production contract. In addition to the TUAV system, three mobile maintenance facility (MMF) units were added to the contract. The work will be performed at AAI's manufacturing facility in Hunt Valley, Md.
“The nine Shadow TUAV systems ordered under the expanded fiscal 2005 contract bring to 42 the total number of systems ordered by the Army since initial award of the contract in December 1999,” said United Industrial and AAI President and Chief Executive Officer Frederick M. Strader. “This growing program is a statement of recognition that Shadow TUAV systems have become a significant asset on the modern digital battlefield, providing tactical, life-saving intelligence for warfighters, as shown in Operation Iraqi Freedom.”
In addition to the production of TUAV systems, AAI also provides support services for fielded and deployed TUAV units. The MMF logistics support assets are enclosed in shelters mounted on High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles, commonly known as Humvees, for tactical mobile support on the battlefield. The MMF units contain test equipment, spare parts, and other logistics support elements and are manned by AAI Corporation TUAV system support specialists who are integrated into the brigades they support.
