Raytheon Co, MCKINNEY, Texas — A command and control system designed by Raytheon Company for the U.S. Army has supported the 4th Infantry Division in Iraq for the past six months. Called Army Airborne Command and Control System (A2C2S), the flying command post has logged more than two thousand hours of operating time to support combat and peacekeeping missions.
The Army outfitted UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters with an A2C2S mission equipment package that transformed the helicopters into airborne command posts. The system enables commanders and their staffs-at brigade, division and above-to maintain digital command, control and communication while moving through the battlespace at 120 nautical miles per hour.
